Introduction

The Women’s Senior League Team represents Middlesex women in inter-county league matches (the Mulligan Larsen League) and the Inter County Team Championship. All matches and the championship are played off scratch and the team is jointly led by Corrine Moy and Ines Hellmayr. Eligible team members are women aged 50 and over with WHI ranging from plus to approximately 11. Being member of the squad is a fantastic chance to represent Middlesex, play competitive scratch golf, meet new people, enjoy top-notch courses, receive high-level coaching and be part of a welcoming yet competitive team environment.

The inter-county league matches are played against Essex, Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire. Each match involves selecting six players to compete individually, and despite playing off scratch, the order of play is based on handicap.

Responsibility for collecting the results and running the end of season jamboree and trophy presentation rotates around the counties and it is Middlesex’s turn in 2024. The end-of-season Jamboree is scheduled to take place at Highgate on Tuesday 1st October 2024.

Additionally, we are taking part in the Inter County Team Competition which involves ten counties and will be hosted in 2024 by Mill Ride Golf Club in Berkshire. This is a one day event where four players represent Middlesex in a Strokeplay format off scratch. The best three individual scores are added together to decide the overall winning team. This event takes place on Monday 16th September 2024.

Mulligan Larsen Trophy Result 2024 – Winner Sussex !!!

Match reports 2024 – it would be super if we could have some links here

Friday 10th May Mulligan Larsen match against Hampshire at Wyke Green

The Middlesex women’s senior team started their season with a match against the newly joined Hampshire team. Held at Wyke Green, most of our players home ground, the match ended in an exciting 3-3 draw. We are delighted with this strong start to the season against such a formidable opponent.

Individual results:
Lulu Housman won against Diane Oram 3/2
Ines Hellmayr won against Amanda Green 1 up
Corrine Moy lost against Fiona Horrocks 5/4
Alice Arnold won against Catherine Anderson 3/2
Christine Tyler lost against Sarah Farthing 5/4
Lorely Paine lost against Ailsa Fraser 7/6

Friday 24th May Mulligan Larsen match against Kent at Muswell Hill

The second match of the season took place at Muswell Hill against the reigning champions, Kent. Kent were very well prepared, having played a practice round the day before and we unfortunately lost ½ – 5½ against this very strong team. Louise Tulip secured our half-point by making an impressive comeback from being three down to halve her match. Despite the loss, it was a beautiful day, and Kent had high praise for the excellent condition of the course. We’re looking forward to improving from here.

Individual results:
Ines Hellmayr lost against Kim Morris 3/2
Corrine Moy lost against Angela Jones 8/6
Christine Tyler lost against Sue Trasler 5/3
Alice Arnold lost against Pat Morecroft 6/5
Elaine Cole lost against Jen Rutherford 3/2
Louise Tulip halved with Fiona Cameron

Friday 28th June Mulligan Larsen match against Essex at Hendon

Third match. Overall result 4½ – 1½ for Essex

Our 3rd match of the season against Essex was held at Hendon on a glorious summer’s day. We had high hopes of win, given that we had narrowly lost at Chigwell GC last year and had home advantage. But despite some strong Middlesex performances and close matches, we were defeated 1½ to 4½ . 4 matches went to the 18th.

Individual results
Corrine Moy lost against Julie Finegan 6/5
Ines Hellmayr lost against Sara Dunn 1 down
Christine Tyler won against Sophie Walters 1 up
Alice Arnold halved against Tiff Wade
Lorely Paine lost against Sue Boom 3/2
Mandy Miller lost against Kate Gadsby 1 down

Friday 19th July Mulligan Larsen match against Sussex at Royal Ashdown Forest

Our fourth match of 2024 took us to the splendid Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club. We arrived the Saturday before our game for a practice round and had a delightful day. The hospitality was outstanding. I discovered that Lulu’s grandfather, Rowand Harker, served as the club captain in 1924. Lulu’s mother, Pauline Harker, was introduced to golf at a young age at this golf club and later wrote a book titled “The Long and the Short of It” about her lessons with Archie Compston. Below is a picture of Pauline at age 15, and it’s clear where Lulu inherited her impressive swing.

We also had a fantastic match day against a formidable Sussex team and managed to secure two points. The company, golf, weather, and food were all exceptional. Days like this are exactly why we love the Mulligan Larsen League so much.

Individual results
Lulu Housman lost against Karen Sykes 5/4
Corrine Moy lost against Aileen Greenfield 7/6
Ines Hellmayr won against Paula Carver 1 up
Elaine Cole lost against Katherin Russell 4/2
Alice Arnold lost against Tracy Poulson 5/3
Liz Kynoch won against Sara Whittaker 3/2

Friday 9th August Mulligan Larsen match against Surrey at Puttenham Golf Course

The last of our 5 league matches brought us to the beautiful Puttenham golf course in Surrey. The overall result of the day was 3 ½ to 2 ½ for Surrey so quite a close call. This was the first match of Vanessa Moulton and she managed to secure a point for the team. What a great result for her and the team!

Lulu Housman won against Kate Powell 6/5
Corrine Moy lost against Maggie Lowe 7/6
Ines Hellmayr halved with Karen Francis
Christine Tyler lost against Maria Diegan 7/6
Alice Arnold lost against Jackie Kingswell 3/1
Vanessa Moulton won against Joanne Thesiger 1 up

Monday 16th September 10 Intercounty Senior Championship at Mill Ride

Mill Ride’s greens were too challenging for some of us on the day and we didn’t win the championship this year (to put it nicely). But we DID win the best turned out 😉

The team was Alice Arnold, Ines Hellmayr, Christine Tyler and Elaine Cole (from left to right).

Tuesday 1st October end of season Jamboree at Highgate

Still to happen
