2023 County Championship Finals

Both FINAL matches went the distance, as both of Middlesex's Elite titles were decided on the 18th green at Ealing Golf Club.

Niall and Julia taste success again in the Middlesex County Championship

The FINAL matches went the distance, as both of Middlesex’s Elite titles were decided on the 18th green at Ealing Golf Club.

Niall Keogh from Sudbury Golf Club prevailed over the “ever green” Greg Evans from Ealing. This was Niall’s 2nd Championship success.

Julia Kerrigan, who plays out of Hendon Golf Club, also won the title for the 2nd time, this time managing a narrow victory over Gemma Allman from Stanmore Golf Club.

A special thanks to everyone at Ealing Golf Cub for exquisite hospitality, ALL the Volunteers, Referee’s and of course the Spectators that really help to make this such a special Championship

See you all at Sudbury Golf Club in 2024

Middlesex Golf enjoyed an impeccable welcome at Ealing Golf Club for this weekend’s County Championship, the golf course was presented by the green staff in sparkling order with not 1 blade of grass seen to be out of place.

Those excellent surfaces produced some fine golf over the c170 rounds of golf played over the 3 days, all credit to CM Ollie and his greens team and their 4 am starts!

Friday’s 36-hole qualifying saw Michael Okon of Mill Hil as the Medalist Champion for the day with an outstanding score in breezy conditions of a +4 score total of 144.
The Men’s Champion Club team prize going to the Ealing GC trio of Greg Evans, Connor Higgins and Jack Neil. More about that photobombing grey-haired bloke in a bit.

Onto the knockout rounds and the Women’s Championship, we saw testing breezes continue on Saturday with both championships reduced to 8 competitors for the Sunday semi-finals, these rounds ultimately produced final contests between;
Ladies Championship
Gemma Allman, Stanmore GC v Jessica Brown, Hendon GC

Men’s Championship
Greg Evans, Ealing GC v Niall Keogh, Sudbury GC.
Both matches were nip and tuck from the very start and continued in that vein all the way to the last putts on the 18th green, with no quarter being given, that despite the matches being played in the best of spirit. Respective champions Jessica and Niall both winning over very worthy opponents in Gemma and Greg.
Huge congratulations to both Jessica and Niall!
Middlesex Golf Champions 2023

The family silverware was entrusted to Irvine Walker and chauffeured by Middlesex legend Ricki Willison.
Ricki is a leader from the front and was tireless in his efforts to make this tournament a success and we thank him for it. As previously stated Middlesex Golf was made very welcome at Ealing GC all members and staff are an absolute credit to that club.

Finally, there appears to be a misconception that the County Championship is merely a jolly up for a group of old blazer-wearing freeloaders who turn up merely to be wined and dined at somebody else’s expense, and nothing is further from the truth.

Every single person who attended on behalf of Middlesex Golf from all of the referees to personalities such as Des Cassidy, Di Rowlands and Irvine Walker worked hard to make the weekend the success it was and long may their contribution continue!

The County Secretary alongside a small sample of the volunteers that turn up to this and every other Middlesex Golf event helping to make all of them the enormous success that that all are.

If you are interested in getting involved in volunteering with your County golf org. Chairman Ray would very much like to speak to you.
There is lots more golf on offer this season, next up is the Women’s Spring meeting at Highgate (all welcome!) followed a few days later by the Mid-Am. Details of all events HERE
