Eamon Kneafsey

1944 - 2025

It is with great sadness that we inform our members of the passing of Eamon Kneafsey. Eamon was a true friend of the County and a great champion for Junior Golf. Eamon firmly believed that Junior golfers are the lifeblood of our game, so much so that he created our U35, U26, U18 Championships.

The phrase ‘unsung hero’ could have been invented for Eamon. He was never one to seek the limelight though he was always there to support both Club and County, particularly when junior or youth golf is involved, and a helping hand is needed. He managed or assisted with the County Junior and Youth teams for the best part of 20 years and took on similar roles at Sudbury over the same period. If any team needed help for a match or competition a call to Eamon would ensure that it was covered. Eamon also took on other roles and duties, as secretary/treasurer and general organiser for Sudbury Tigers, as a regular assistant for the County’s Course Ratings and as Sudbury County delegate. He never sought the praise or reward that he deserved but was still always there the next time that he was called upon.

Eamon will be sadly missed by everyone at Middlesex Golf, but fondly remembered by all of us. His name will live on in Middlesex through the Championship that proudly bears his name.

Our thoughts are with Eamon’s family at this sad time.
