Our 4th match of the season took place at Pyecombe Golf Club, a James Braid designed course located in the Sussex Downs National Park. It is a spectacular downland course, with stunning views across the Sussex Weald. It also proved to be particularly challenging, given the extremely dry conditions.
Fortunately, some of the team were able to play a practice round the previous day. We spent a lot of time working out how best to play some of the more challenging shots! And then set about preparing a course guide for the rest of the team over dinner and the England vs Argentina World Cup semi-final 
.
Sussex are always a challenging team to play, having won the league for the past 2 years, and holding a 4-year reign as champions from 2015-2019.
The team – Lulu Housmann, Ines Hellmayr, Lorely Pain, Tsuruko Kawabata, Alice Arnold, Corrine Moy – produced some fine performances. Despite a strong home advantage for Sussex on a familiar course. And the sheer difficulty of holding the ball on most of the fast-running, extreme-sloping fairways.
As always, the match was played in great spirit. And it is always a joy to play against the very talented Sussex players.
However, they once again proved to be too strong for us. We managed to take 3 of the matches to the final hole. But the final result was 6-0 to Sussex.
