Middlesex team – Christine Tyler, Vanessa Moulton, Louise Tulip, Lorely Paine, Susanne Büettner and newby Katie Olewnik
Our normally well planned 2nd team match day nearly came a cropper at 7am when a mix up within Finchley meant the chef didn’t realise we were expecting breakfast and wasn’t even on site. Then, just when you are thinking ‘I wish I had a fairy godmother’ two came along! Newby, Katie Olenik a member at Finchley managed to morph into one of the catering team, making and serving everyone with teas and coffees and Sven, the very flexible handyman booted up the ovens and ended up bringing our bacon butties out to the first tee. As proof I attach a nice photo of Sven along with the usual team photos.
A exciting morning foursomes saw Christine & Susanne giving us our first point of the season and I must admit I was delighted. The results were – Christine and Susanne 1 up, Katie and Louise lost 2&1, Lorely and Vanessa lost 2&4.
If I’d felt delighted with a point in the morning the afternoon singles knocked my socks off – three wins and a halved match meant we drew our match overall. Katie was the out first and won her match 2&1. Lorely halved her match, Vanessa lost 2 down after being neck and neck all the way round, Susanne who got off to a fabulous start fought off a strong recovery by her opponent on the back nine to win 2&1. Louise lost 4&6 in a match where her opponent didn’t drop a single shot on the back nine and there is nothing quite like a match which is determined by the final pair, when all the teams and managers are assembled by the 18th green. Christine did us proud by sinking her final putt to win her match 1 up.
Thanks to Finchley GC for the hospitality and finding a solution to a tricky situation, fabulous!
