It is the hundredth anniversary of this great championship. So, it was fitting that we held the championships at the venue where it all started in 1925. Northwood Golf Club.Â
Justin Phelps is our Men’s Champion, Gemma Allman is our Women’s Champion and Ines Hellmayr is our Silver Plate Champion.
Home player Justin defeated Enfield’s Stanley Campbell in a tight match 3&2. Stanmore’s Gemma defeated Enfield’s Izzy Codling by the same score. 3&2.
Muswell Hill’s Ines defeated Stanmore’s Laura Bonar by 5&3.
Justin was never behind in his match against Stanley and played very solid golf throughout the final. This is the fifth time that Justin has been crowned Middlesex Men’s Champion.Â
Gemma was very impressive in the Women’s final, racing to 5 up lead after 9 holes. However, the spirited Izzy showed some grit and began a fight back, However, Gemma held her nerve and is now our Champion!
Ines also raced off to an early lead in the Silver Plate final. Both Women played solid golf but it was to be Ines’ day. Ines is now our Silver Plate Champion!
We must give a massive thanks to Northwood Golf Club for hosting. It is their 125th Anniversary. Ray Grant and his team put on a fabulous course and fabulous facilities, with fabulous food over the three days of the championships. We also give thanks to Club Captain Linda Baker and her team of volunteers and ball spotters. The volunteers really do make the event so special for everyone. Linda was also one of our starters every day. Thanks Linda!
Lastly, thanks to the team of referees who are vital to running a championship, The referees are also volunteers and give their time and knowledge for the greater good of the game. Thanks to Robbie & Ketan and the entire team.
See you all at Wyke Green GC next year!
