Women’s 2nd Team vs Hampshire

Petersfield GC 3rd August

Middlesex team – Christine Tyler, Mandy Miller, Elaine Cole, Lorely Paine, Nicola Foster and newby Jess Haley

Two rounds of golf in 30 degrees of heat is tough, and even a the light breeze in the afternoon didn’t bring the temperature down by much. The day was in fact so hot that the team photo was taken at the bar – I couldn’t persuade them back out into the sun! The second photo could be straight out of a David Attenbourgh documentary, ‘as the hot sun beat down they sought shelter where they could…..’

The morning foursomes brought us 2 points – uncharted territory! Nicola returning from injury to resume an old partnership with Mandy Miller and brought in the first point beating their opponents 3&2. Christine & Jess lost 2&4 and the final pairing of Wyke Green teammates Elaine and Lorely had a fabulous 2up win.

Leading 2-1 from the morning session made the singles tremendously exciting. Elaine led the team off against an extremely strong opponent who produced a string of birdies to beat Elaine 4&5. Mandy won 3&2, then Nicola won 4&2. Jess in her first outing for Middlesex did us proud but lost 2&3, Christine lost 2&4 and  both teams accompanied Lorely and Izzy Lawson down the 18th watching the game that would determine the match. In a finale every bit as exciting as our match against Sussex saw Lorely loose the 18th 1 down.

Thanks to Petersfield GC for the hospitality and Hampshire for some super matches. We look forward to welcoming them to Middlesex in 2027.
