Competition Report: Ten County Championship
Date: 21st September 2026
Venue: Weybrook Park

The finale of the senior season (besides the Jamboree, perhaps) is the Ten County Championship. Sussex
usually wins it while Middlesex has historically mixed results. Last year we finished 5th and were
absolutely thrilled.
The format is 3 best gross scores out of 4. The Middlesex team availability was challenging this year due
to annual leave day shortages and traveling. As a result, we went there with the minimum team of three:
Christine Tyler, Elaine Cole and myself.
The sky was as blue as was our very proud Middlesex sail and our outfits; we definitely looked the part.
Score-wise we were unfortunately not as successful and ended last (see leader board further below).
Weybrook Park is an excellent course and was in immaculate conditions. The organisation by Hampshire
was exceptional and the atmosphere great. We had a superb day and extend our thanks to Middlesex Golf
for all their support.
As the day was coming to an end and Christine, Elaine and myself were tucking into our deserts, I said to
Elaine: “So, you haY ze schortest draiY”, meaning she lives near the M3 and avoids the M25/North
Circular ordeal. From her expression I noticed something had gone seriously wrong. It turned out she
thought I was criticising the distance of her tee shots. Once we clarified the misunderstanding, we
couldn’t stop giggling all the way to our cars.
It was a great day all around. We definitely looked like the winner and we easily had the most fun.
