The Friern League Finals were held at Grims Dyke GC on Sunday 28th September.
Junior players from Ealing, North Middlesex and Pinner Hill Golf Clubs battled for the honour of being crowned Friern League Champions for 2025.
All six matches were keenly contested and Pinner Hill and Ealing couldn’t be separated after 18 holes in some typical autumn weather.
So, there was to be a play-off. Each club selected a player to go head to head in the sudden death play off.Â
Thomas Kitchener, representing Ealing had the honour on the first hole. He put his tee shot to 20 feet. Oscar Tierney, representing Pinner Hill, followed Thomas onto the green, a couple of feet closer. Thomas putted down to 2 feet, while Oscar putted to six inches. The hole was halved in par.
On to the second hole. Both players hit solid drives, leaving short approaches to the sloping green. Oscar played a wedge onto the green. Pressure now moved to Thomas. He was up to the task and hit his wedge to six feet. Oscar 2 putted for par, leaving Thomas with a wicked curling putt. His first putt raced by on the low side, gathering pace on the slope. This left another difficult putt to save par. Unfortunately, this putt lipped out, meaning that Pinner Hill are our champions for 2025.
Thanks to Colin & the team at Grims Dyke for hosting the final. A day that these youngsters won’t forget, for all the right reasons!
