Our last match of the season took place at Croham Hurst Golf Club, a lovely parkland course offering a mix of challenging fairways and undulating greens.
Surrey fielded a talented team, as usual. So we knew we would have our work cut out. The course was dry and fast-running – which made for some exciting golf!
We were without two of our strongest players, but the team was certainly up for the challenge. The team comprised Ines Hellmayr, Lorely Pain, Alice Arnold, Corrine Moy, Vanessa Moulton and a new addition to the team – Sue Goddard.
Ines Hellmayr led from the front, with a fine win against a very strong player. Unfortunately, the rest of the team couldn’t match her performance. Despite some tenacious performances, we went down to Surrey by 5-1.
As always, the match was played in great spirit. And it was a joy to play against the very talented Surrey players.
We were also very grateful to Sue Goddard for stepping in at short notice. She made a great addition to the team – and will no doubt feature in future squads.
Match Results:
- Ines Hellmayr vs Maria Diegan – 3&1 up
- Lorely Paine vs Gillian Brooks – 7&6 down
- Corrine Moy vs Jackie Kingswell – 8&7 down

This brings our league season to a close. Our remaining two fixtures are the 10 Counties Trophy in September, followed by the end-of-season Jamboree in October.
After these matches, Ines and Corrine will sign off as Senior Captains after 4 seasons at the helm. It’s been an honour to lead the Women’s Senior team.
We are very glad to be handing over the captaincy to Lorely Paine and Alice Arnold, who will undoubtedly do a fabulous job. And hopefully lead the team to a stronger future.
