The Middlesex Pearson Finals were contested by Finchley Golf Club vs Hampstead Golf Club and Grims Dyke Golf Club vs Muswell Hill Golf Club. The morning semi-finals were very tight affairs with two matches requiring extra holes. Grims Dyke & Finchley emerged as victors. The final was played in great spirit with no quarter given and none asked. With the match score standing at 3-3, the last remaining match on the course going down 18, all-square. In a tense finish, Grims Dyke won the hole and thus the match. What a fitting end to a Titanic tussle, to be decided by the last match on the last green. Fantastic golf from fantastic competitors.
Grims Dyke will go on to represent Middlesex at the Inter-County Finals at Hindhead on 18th July
The course at Stanmore was in superb condition and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The food was excellent and the Half-way House was a welcomed bonus for competitors on a balmy summer’s day.Â
It was also great to see two of the losing semi-finalists stay on to caddy in the afternoon. This just shows what a spirit that the matches were contested.
