Middlesex Summer Knockout Finals Day 1

We travelled to Pinner Hill Golf Club for the first of four consecutive Sundays of Middlesex Summer Knockout Finals.

The first match up was the Gowland Bowl Semi-Final between Ross Brabender of Ealing GC and Paul Manion of Grims Dyke GC. Ross ran out a deserving winner with some solid golf. The other semi-final was conceded by Niall Keogh to Dele Kukoyi from Mill Hill GC due to a fixture clash. That left us with an afternoon final of Ross versus Dele. Ross went up by 4 holes early but Dele fought back to be just 2 down at the turn. However, Ross held firm to eventually win out 5&3.

Next up was the Men’s Senior Scratch knockout Final between Simon Westgarth from Fulwell GC and Norman Shiels from West Middlesex GC. Simon went 1 up early and held his nerve to win by 2&1 and become Senior Scratch Knockout Men’s Champion for 3rd time in 4 years. Simon is also our Middlesex Men’s Senior County Champion. He is obviously in a rich vein of form.

The next match was the Women’s Scratch Matchplay Knockout Final between Marian Hill from Stanmore GC and Ros Norkett from Muswell Hill GC. Marian went up in the match early on but Ros never gave up. Marian made a stunning birdie on the 9th green to go three up. This proved to be an unassailable lead as she triumphed by 4&2.

The final final of the day saw Enfield pair of Cherry Kealy and Steph Devine take on the gritty Grims Dyke duo of Julie Nash and Tracey Gorb. The match was all square after 9 holes but Grims Dyke powered ahead on the back nine before running our winners by 4&2.

All of the matches were played in a friendly, sporting and competitive manner. Congratulations to all of our winners and commiserations to the losing finalists. You all should be proud of your achievements. Well done everyone!

A huge thanks to Pinner Hill Golf Club for their fabulous hospitality and presenting the course in fabulous condition, despite the challenging summer that all clubs have faced.
