MIDDLESEX WOMEN’S 2nd TEAM

Chislehurst GC, Tuesday 1st September

Fixture vs Kent at Chislehurst on Tuesday 1st of September 2026

Middlesex team – Christine Tyler, Mandy Miller, Vanessa Moulton, Lorely Paine, Nicola Foster, Susanne Büettner and Angela He

Mandy Millers advice that a practice round at Chilslehurst was spot on. Many blind shots, crossing fairways and some pretty small greens are the signature of Chislehurst. It’s remarkable that around 59 acres accommodated 18 holes, oh, and a clubhouse that was once the home of Princess Eugenie and Napoleon the 3rd.

The first day of autumn brought us significantly lower temperatures than all our previous Stovold matches have been played in this year; quite a relief. Although Chislehurst was like the majority of courses without fairway watering (and massive reserves of water), their greens and approaches were pretty lush and the greens ran true.

For the second time this season we took 2 of the 3 points in the morning foursomes. Like the Hampshire match, I expect our opposition were as surprised as we were!

Susanne & Lorely led us off and won 2up. Nicola & Mandy also won by 2 holes and our final paring of Vanessa & Angela lost 5&6.

So once again we lead the match from the morning foursomes. Vanessa led the team off against their best player and lost 6&4 Angela also faced a very strong opponent and lost 7&6. Susanne lost 3&4 in a match that was really closer than the result suggests. Nicola had a resounding victory of 8&6, shortly followed by Lorely winning 4&3.

That left both teams with 4 points and it all came down to the last match still out on the course. Our hero from the Sussex game, Christine, couldn’t quite replicate her success at Finchley but none the less gave us a thrilling end to the match and had both teams accompanying her and her opponent up the 18th. One down from the 17th, our hopes were high when Christine played a beautiful approach shot over bunkers onto the green. Sadly for us Nicola her opponent did the same, and scored a par to give Kent a victory.

Thanks to Chislehurst GC for the hospitality and Kent for some exciting matches. We look forward to welcoming them to Middlesex in 2027.
