MIDDLESEX SENIOR WOMEN’S TEAM vs ESSEX

Wyke Green Golf Club – Tuesday 9th June

The Middlesex Senior Women welcomed the Essex Women on Tuesday 9th June to Wyke Green Golf Club for our annual fixture.

The day began under rather threatening skies, with heavy rain greeting both teams on arrival. Fortunately, the weather improved dramatically as the morning progressed, and we were rewarded with sunshine and pleasant conditions for the match.

As always, the welcome from everyone at Wyke Green was exceptional. The manager, professional staff and bar team looked after us superbly throughout the day. This was particularly also appreciated by Essex Manager Julie Finegan. We are extremely proud to be able to host our matches at such a wonderful club.

While the hospitality was first class, I have to admit that I found the greens somewhat less welcoming and struggled to come to terms with them! Fortunately, Lulu, Tsuruko and Mandy clearly felt much more at home, each securing excellent victories. Their three wins proved crucial and enabled Middlesex to earn an overall draw against a strong Essex side – a result we were delighted to achieve.

The Essex team were tremendous company throughout the day, playing in great spirit and contributing to the friendly atmosphere that makes these matches so enjoyable. At one stage, they even treated us to an impromptu karaoke performance, accompanied by the remark, “Now you know we are from Essex!” It certainly added to the fun and laughter.

All in all, it was another memorable day in our Seniors programme, combining competitive golf, friendship and plenty of good humour. We look forward to renewing acquaintances with our Essex friends next year.
