Middlesex Senior Team vs Surrey – Match Report
Date: 29th May 2025
Venue: Wyke Green
Report by: Ines Hellmayr
The Middlesex Senior Team played its first match of the 2025 season yesterday against a strong Surrey at Wyke Green.
It proved to be a challenging start, with Surrey fielding a team whose highest handicap was still lower than our lowest. Despite a valiant effort from our players, we lost the match 1:5.
A huge congratulations goes to Tsuruko, who made an outstanding debut, securing our only win of the day against a +0.9 handicapper. An impressive achievement!
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Altynay, who showed great resilience by playing her first match for Middlesex under difficult circumstances—her clubs were stolen over the weekend, and she had to compete with a partly borrowed set. That couldn’t have been easy.
Our “Wyke Green force” – Lorely, Elaine, and Alice – gave it everything, pushing their matches to holes 15, 16, and 17 respectively. While they didn’t come out on top, their determination and fighting spirit were commendable.
Although it was a tough opener, it served as a good warm-up for the season ahead. We look forward to regrouping and hopefully turning things around in our next match against Essex at Chigwell on 12th June.

Tsuruko Kawabata won against Tana Churchill 2 up
